Biography

Alastair McIntosh is Head of Research, Analysis and Development at the Department for Transport in the United Kingdom. His teams deliver the evidence, advice and capabilities that ensure the transport network is secure. His career has focused on the application of science and technology to defence and security.

He previously worked as the technical oversight manager for aviation security and a research and advice lead within the Department for Transport, ran an academic research group at Imperial College London and worked at the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl). He holds a PhD and master’s degree in chemistry from Imperial College London and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry.
