Biography

Darren currently works for the Department for Transport (DfT), which is the United Kingdom's Appropriate Authority.

Working in the Research Analysis and Development team he is responsible for overseeing scientific and technical research relating to transport security. His main area of expertise is in the use and deployment methodologies of explosive detection dogs.

He has developed the UK's FREDD and REST capabilities along with the use of dogs for passenger screening in a mass transit environment. Darren was a key member of an EU working group putting together standards for detection dogs working in aviation security and he is the chair of the ECAC Explosive Detection Dog working group. Prior to leading the canine programme at DfT, Darren was a senior scientist working in the canine detection team at the Defence Science & Technology Laboratory (Dstl).

Darren holds a degree in chemistry with pharmaceutical and forensic sciences.
