ITF Roundtable: Safety Management Systems across all modes of transport

On 23-24 March, ECAC took part in a roundtable on Safety Management Systems (SMS), organised by the International Transport Forum at the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).

The roundtable was chaired by Kathy Fox, Chair of Canada's Transportation Safety Board, and was conducted under Chatham House Rule(1). It aimed at sharing experiences accross countries and modes of transport (maritime, aviation, railways, road).

Sharing successful practices and barriers that can be encountered, the meeting also looked into the lessons that can be learned from one mode  of transport to another and how risk assessment can be improved to develop more robust safety management systems.

The report of the roundtable will feed into the ITF Forum which will take place in Leipzig in 2018. ECAC was represented by Alessandro Cardi (ENAC, Italy) on behalf of ECAC Safety Focal Point Pekka Henttu, and Béatrice Adoléhoumé (ECAC Secretariat).
