Air carriers’ role in achieving aviation’s climate goals discussed at ECAC monthly webinar

8 June 2022 - The air carriers’ role in achieving aviation’s climate goals was the focus of discussions at the 11th ECAC monthly familiarisation webinar on basic knowledge on aviation and the environment. The webinar welcomed the participation of representatives from different aircraft operators’ business models.

Athar Husain Khan, Secretary-General of the European Business Aviation Association (EBAA), outlined business aviation’s work on sustainability and its commitment on climate change, its current goals (including net-zero CO2 emissions by 2050) and the pathways to achieving them.

Martina Di Palma, Sustainability Manager at the European Regions Airline Association (ERA), addressed European aviation’s Destination 2050 decarbonisation roadmap and the regional carriers’ engagement in climate action, offering specific examples of the airlines’ climate initiatives.

Ruby Sayyed, Head of ATM advocacy at the International Air Transport Association (IATA), spoke about the airlines’ operational improvement potential in the context of an aviation long-term aspirational goal (LTAG), presenting initiatives taken to achieve operational efficiencies.
