In December 2018, Directors General agreed to create a permanent coordination group covering both safety and air navigation matters: the European Coordination Group on Safety and Air Navigation (ESANCG).
Its main objectives are:
- to coordinate European contributions, including for ICAO Assemblies, and maintain dialogue with key international partners in the context of preparations for major ICAO events;
- to maintain dialogue with European stakeholders and key international partners in the context of preparations for major ICAO events;
- to coordinate common elements of reply to ICAO State letters deemed of strategic interest for Europe; and
- to report to Directors General, via the Focal Point for Safety matters, on the implementation of its work programme and to establish a proposal for its future work.
Its membership is composed of ECAC/EU Member States, EASA, SESAR Joint Undertaking and EUROCONTROL, and the group can meet up to eight times a year if needed, for instance during the years when ICAO Assemblies are held.
ESANCG is co-chaired by ECAC and the European Commission. The secretariat of this group is ensured by EASA, with the support of the ECAC Secretariat, and any queries can be sent to
