In December 2018, Directors General agreed to create a permanent coordination group covering both safety and air navigation matters: the European Coordination Group on Safety and Air Navigation (ESANCG).

Its main objectives are:

  • to coordinate European contributions, including for ICAO Assemblies, and maintain dialogue with key international partners in the context of preparations for major ICAO events;

  • to coordinate common elements of reply to ICAO State letters deemed of strategic interest for Europe; and
  • to report to Directors General, via the Focal Point for Safety matters, on the implementation of its work programme and to establish a proposal for its future work.

Its membership is composed of ECAC/EU Member States, EASA, SESAR Joint Undertaking and EUROCONTROL, and the group can meet up to eight times a year if needed, for instance during the years when ICAO Assemblies are held.

ESANCG is co-chaired by ECAC and the European Commission. The secretariat of this group is ensured by EASA, with the support of the ECAC Secretariat, and any queries can be sent to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
