Threat Response Group
Established in 2024, the Threat Response Group (TRG) is a specialised body within the realm of ECAC aviation security, mandated to develop and maintain comprehensive threat lists that inform the performance standards for security equipment. These lists, based on priorities set by the Security Forum, encompass potential threats, including materials, masses, and likely methods of attack, which serve as critical inputs for the Technical Task Force (TTF) and the Explosive Detection Dogs Study Group (EDD).
The TRG regularly reviews and updates these threat lists – at least every three years, or more frequently in response to new security incidents or changes in the threat landscape. The group's work is guided by policy priorities that consider both the evolving threat environment and the capabilities of current and emerging technologies. The Threat Response Group also evaluates proposals from ECAC Member States, the Technical Task Force and the Explosive Detection Dogs Study Group, ensuring that the most relevant and up-to-date threat information is incorporated into security measures.
Comprising experts in technical, policy, and intelligence fields from ECAC Member States and the European Commission, the TRG plays a vital role in exchanging information with other ECAC security groups and contributes to the broader efforts to enhance civil aviation security. The group operates under strict security clearance protocols and reports directly to the Security Forum, which oversees its annual work programme and progress.
