Montreal, 22 September 2025 — On the margins of the 42nd ICAO Assembly, the ECAC delegation met with Rieko Nakayama, Assistant Vice-Minister of Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT), and Ambassador Toshiyuki Onuma, Japan’s representative to the ICAO Council.
Discussions highlighted common interests shared by ECAC Member States and Japan, including tackling GNSS radio frequency interference (RFI) and building GNSS resilience, advancing environmental sustainability, and strengthening multilateral cooperation between States. Both sides emphasised the value of regular dialogue and exchanges of experience – particularly through regional Directors General meetings – as effective means to address challenges and support global decision-making. The meeting reaffirmed the strong collaboration between ECAC and Japan in international civil aviation and identified promising areas for potential future cooperation.
